Big red error message after window 7 installation
December 3rd, 2009 | by admin |My brother tried to install windows 7 in his new ASUS Laptop Yesterday. But he was unable to open his laptop after installation. A big red error message with “Could not find c://recovery.dat” message was appeared. He show me the error. I had not seen that type of error before.
I tried many things and at last I was unable to get out of it. Then I reinstall windows 7 then, window 7 was now installed and work fine.
I make a conclusion that, ASUS recovery hidden partitions has some windows certifications. If it is not removed before installing windows 7 then, there will be conflict in the recovery and OS. So this error is shown.
If you have any idea, please share me.
Following steps were done for fresh installation:
- Make the dvd ROM default boot device
- restart the computer
- press any key on keyboard to open laptop with the windows 7 installation CD.
- Now you can see the partitions in installation process.
- There you can see previous OS installation partitions and one hidden Recovery Partitions.
- Delete both the partitions create new partition for fresh windows 7 installation.
- When you create the primary partitions Recovery Partition is automatically allocated.
- Now start you usual installation.
Enjoy Windows 7 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Jeffrey, you can make CD or DVD ROM default boot device according your PC model.
Depending on the model of your PC, access your BIOS by pressing the F5, Delete or F8 key and change the boot sequence.
